Wes Neustel

Wes Neustel has redefined the word "player". At 88 he is actively engaged in the pursuit of life both physically and mentally. Wes finds joy in the world of business, as well.

Last year this incredible man skied 70 days. It is common for him to ride 30 miles on a bike followed by a 45-60 minute walk. He does 30 push ups a day. Although Wes rarely reads books (due to time constraints), magazines such as Kiplinger's, and Money Magazine fire his intellect. He volunteers with several organizations and serves on many boards.

Wes finds that most people his age can't keep up with him. He is sad when his friends grow old before their time, end up in treatment facilities or die earlier than they should. He has observed that for many, conversations focus on their doctor's appointments along with aches and pains. He wonders why people retire if their work is fun and why they keep their job if it isn't.

Wes Neustel is the child of a mixed marriage (one parent German and the other Norwegian). He grew up in Duluth as a ski jumper and an original "ski bum" before that was popular. Wes served in the navy during WWII as a gunner on a dive-bomber. He started Ski Hut in 1955 while working concurrently for HJ Heinz as a food broker.

Although he has good luck and good genes, it's likely that Wes's sense of humor, and his attitude have contributed to his vitality. His children, Andrea, Mark, and Scott have inherited Wes's work ethic and love of physical activity.

Not the least of Wes's strengths is gratitude. He is proud of his offspring, his employees, and the chance to spend 54 years with his beloved bride, Shirley. Before her death, she was his spirited companion for fishing, skiing, biking and hiking.

Wes states that the secret to a long and happy marriage can be reduced to five words. Say, "yes dear" and mean it. If that doesn't work tell her "I was wrong". If all this fails, blame it on the hearing aide.
